Quranic guidance is the path that Allah SWT has shown to mankind through the Quran. This holy book tells humans whom to believe in, what is right and wrong, and how to live. Allah SWT says in the Quran:

“This is the Book! There is no doubt about it, a guide for those mindful of Allah.” – (Surah Al–Baqarah, 2:2)

Quranic guidance and the Umrah are connected to each other. So, Umrah is a worship that is proven by the Quran and Sunnah both. This means when Muslims perform Umrah, they implement the guidance of the Quran in practical life. Muslims should prepare for the Umrah journey according to the guidance of the Holy Quran. This is about preparing in terms of faith, intention, and morals that the holy book tells to every human. Preparation should not only limited to travel logistics and tickets, no doubt these are mandatory, but the real purpose is Umrah performance and taking blessings from Allah SWT.

Clarifying the Intention in a Clear and Transparent Way

The intention of Umrah should be only for the pleasure of Allah SWT, not to impress someone. The Quran repeatedly explains that the real value of action lies in intention, such as:

“Even though they were only commanded to worship Allah alone with sincere devotion to Him in all uprightness, establish prayer, and pay alms-tax. That is the upright way.”

(Surah Al-Bayyinah, 98:5)

Clarifying your intention is the Quranic guidance that is the first and fundamental step in preparing for Umrah. That is, while preparing for Umrah, keep this thought in your heart that through this worship, you will attain Allah’s SWT pleasure, blessings, and forgiveness. It’s not just to show off on social media or in front of people.

Organise Your Travel Arrangements in a Halal Way

The journey of Umrah is not just a worship, but also connected with money, such as the cost of visa, tickets, hotels, and all expenses. If the money is halal, Umrah is valid on the spiritual level. If it’s Haram, then it won’t be accepted because Allah SWT emphasises the importance of Halal sustenance in the Quran. This is what the Quran says about “Zad-e-Raah (travel expenses)”:

“Take necessary provisions for the journey, surely the best provision is righteousness.” – (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:197)

In another verse, the Quran says about it:

“Eat of the good, lawful things provided to you by Allah. And be mindful of Allah in Whom you believe.” – (Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:88)

Early preparation of the Umrah journey should include halal money. There must not be any cheating or Riba. Keep your travel expenses within halal limits, as Umrah performed with halal sustenance gives peace to the heart, makes the journey blessed, and prayers become effective. Also, consider providing your halal sustenance to help travellers and the oppressed ones, which means giving charity and Zakat.

Financial Capacity and Proper Planning for Umrah Journey

The Quran makes the Umrah an act of worship, but only for those who are financially and physically able for this. This states that a Muslim should be able to travel within his own financial means, not by taking loans or without paying someone else’s dues. This also includes that finances should be earned through halal sources. If there is a loan, then first pay or take at least permission.

Allah SWT says in the Holy Quran:

“Allah doesn’t require of any soul more than what it can afford.” – (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:286)

This states that Allah SWT don’t want the burden, but man makes it difficult through his own planning. Take easy steps according to your strength, wealth, and health. So, plan Umrah tickets, hotels, and transport in a way that reduces hassle and difficulty. Estimate every expense as early as possible for your Umrah journey. Secure the livelihood and responsibilities of your family behind. If one doesn’t follow the proper planning, the spiritual peace of the journey ends, and it becomes stressful.

Make Proper Preparation for Learning and Knowledge

Before going on Umrah, learn its pillars and responsibilities. This includes the rules of Ihram, the method of Tawaf and Sa’ee, which Duas to recite, and learning Sharia etiquettes. To do any act of worship correctly, it’s necessary to acquire knowledge first. The Holy Quran guidance also focuses on this, as said:

“If you do not know this already, then ask those who have knowledge of the Scriptures.” – (Surah Al-Nahl, 16:43)

“Whoever commits to performing pilgrimage, let them stay away from intimate relations, foul language, and arguments during pilgrimage.” – (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:197)

This means it’s obligatory to keep good morals during the journey of worship. While the foundation of spiritual preparation is piety, as said:

“And whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for them.” – (Surah At-Talaq, 65:2)

As you plan to go on a journey of Umrah, you should improve your morals and spiritual preparation in light of the Quran. You can follow these practices:
